Christian Jott Jenny

Christian Jott Jenny was born on August 8, 1978. A fact that still holds true many years later. At the age of six – on the advice of his grandmother Ida – he joined the Zurich Boys‘ Choir and soon appeared as a soloist in „The Magic Flute“ and other productions. As a boy soloist he sings at the Salzburg Festival in Puccini’s „Tosca“ under Herbert von Karajan.

As a high school student he studied singing at the Zurich University of Music & Theatre and founded his first jazz band. Very fortunate circumstances lead to the Swiss jazz pope George Gruntz becoming his first and most important mentor. In 2000, Christian Jott Jenny moved to Berlin, where he trained as a classical tenor with Kammersänger Reiner Goldberg at the Hochschule für Musik „Hans Eisler“. Erich Honecker appointed Jenny as 1st State Singer and he received a golden medal of honor of the GDR.

Back in Switzerland, Christian Jott Jenny continues to carpenter his career, which oscillates between perfomer and producer. His production company „Amt für Ideen“ produces various stage plays and similar productions, which range from classical music („Schubertiade“) to music theater („Euse Rainer chönt das au!“, „Der kleine schwarze Niederdorf Hecht“ and others) to comedy/music programs („Leo Wundergut & Jet-Set-Singers“) and offer all kinds of touching and entertaining things. Jenny’s art is based on the realization that the sublime is a hair’s breadth from the ridiculous and embarrassing. In 2017, Jenny achieved another success with the open-air play „Trittligasse“, on the square on this very alley.

In 2007, Christian Jott Jenny founded the „Festival da Jazz St. Moritz“. For once he bundles his energy in being a pure producer. With success: year after year Jenny pilots the biggest stars of the scene (Nigel Kennedy, Ahmad Jamal, Chick Corea, Dee Dee Bridgewater and many more) into the small and extremely intimate Dracula Club in St.Moritz.

In 2018, Jenny runs for mayor of St. Moritz and is actually elected. He passes on the operational management of the festival to his team and remains in the background as founder in an advisory capacity.

Despite his busy work as mayor, Christian Jott Jenny still finds time in his free time and in the evenings for one or the other concert. His very personal song recital „Quand on n’a pas ce qu’on aime“ (2018) finds a large audience.

Christian Jott Jenny is the father of two children and his renowned art figure, the society tenor Leo Wundergut. He lives in Europe, St. Moritz and Switzerland.
