China’s ambitions in space: Sky is no limit.

The Middle Kingdom takes off. China’s ambitions seem to know no limits, even in cosmic space. The news cycle of new Chinese space missions does not break: In June, China launched Shenzhou-12, its first manned mission since 2016, and now aims to complete construction of the Tianhe („Harmony of Heaven“) space station by the end of 2022.

China launched its first space flight with astronauts in 2003 more than 40 years after NASA, but now the superpower is rapidly moving into the fast lane. These developments instill fear and alarm in the West. Are other fronts now opening up in space besides the U.S.-Chinese trade and technology war, and do we have to fear a „space war“? How will the rest of the world, and above all the USA, react to this orbital challenge and what geopolitical consequences will this entail?

Martina Fuchs holds a Master in International Economic History from the University of Geneva, a Postgraduate Diploma in Television Journalism from the American University in Cairo, and a Master in Global Finance (MSGF) from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and New York University (NYU) Stern Business School.

In addition to her role at CNN, she has moderated numerous top financial and business events, such as the CEO Summit 2018 of the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Zurich, the China Europe Investment Summit 2018 in Andermatt, the Swiss Management Forum (SMG) 2018 in Zurich, or the opening ceremony of the world’s largest bank in Zurich, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), in the presence of Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer and National Bank President Thomas Jordan.

Like the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, the G20 Summit in Hangzhou, or the St. Gallen Symposium. She has conducted dozens of exclusive interviews during her career, including with International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach, Syngenta CEO Erik Fyrwald, Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, Chinese star pianist Lang Lang, or Grammy Award winner Will.I.Am.
